There
are more than 3000 protected areas in Australia, with a lot of reserves
and sanctuaries on about 40 millions of km2. On the 540 national
parks, 13 are World Heritage Areas, under protection of Unesco.
The
most famous of the Australian parks, there are Kakadu, Uluru-Kata
Tjuta, Blue Mountains, Wet Tropics, Shark Bay, the Great Barrier
Reef and Wilsons Promontory National Parks. The Blue Mountains NP
is the nearest park from Sydney, about 90 km from the town.
